about

JARNO VARSTED – THE STING

Put it on repeat! With only harmonica and vocals (and at just 23-minutes long!), Jarno Varsted and producer Jens Hein have created a classic and yet totally contemporary album where absolutely nothing is missing.

You can look forward to a sonic tornado of Silver Blues. A neo-noir psychedelic western that’s both tough and tender. Without getting too graphic, it’s what I imagine NEBRASKA, ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, and the soundtrack to DEAD MAN might sound like if they had a threesome. It’s a dynamic-yet-slow-burn of action, passion, and heart-wrenching tragedy.

Rather than put too many words on what THE STING means to me, I encourage you to listen and make your own connections, choose your own adventures, and hear the same songs in different ways upon repeated listening. Luckily for us, at an almost absurdly tight 23-minutes in length, you can just let it roll on repeat and hear what I mean.

On a personal note, having had the pleasure of knowing Jarno both on and off the stage for almost 20 years now, I can say without hesitation that he’s never sounded more like himself. With all the music he can make (and has made!) on so many instruments, hearing him just singing and blowing his heart out on just harp and vocals is a rare treat, and one that already sounds timeless.
